Hospital tap water as a source of stenotrophomonas maltophilia infection.
study, we stated that the presence of shock was evaluated " when the blood samples were obtained for culture (early shock) " [2, p. 194], which means before starting any antibiotic treatment. Under this condition , shock cannot vary by empirical therapy; thus, it should not be considered to be intermediate between the exposure to a given empirical antibiotic treatment (independent variable) and...

To the Editor: Stenotrophomonas maltophilia has emerged as an important nosocomial pathogen, especially in debilitated and immunocompro-mised persons (1). However, comparatively little is known of the epidemiology of this bacterium, and sources and routes of transmission of S. mal-tophilia are not well understood. The bacterium is widely distributed in the environment, including in plant rhi-zo...
متن کاملReassessment of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia phenotype.
Standard microbiology references describe Stenotrophomonas maltophilia as oxidase negative and variable with respect to utilization of lactose and sucrose. Analysis of a collection of 766 S. maltophilia isolates indicated that approximately 20% are oxidase positive and that this species should be reevaluated for other phenotypes, including oxidative fermentation of lactose and sucrose.
متن کاملAssociation between contaminated faucets and colonization or infection by nonfermenting gram-negative bacteria in intensive care units in Taiwan.
This study was designed to determine the strength of the association between the isolation of nonfermentative gram-negative bacilli (NFGNB) from tap water faucet aerators and the prevalence of colonization or infection of patients in intensive care units (ICUs). Surveillance cultures were obtained during a 4-month period from 162 faucet aerators located in seven different ICUs. The prevalence o...
متن کاملStenotrophomonas maltophilia keratitis and scleritis.
BACKGROUND Stenotrophomonas maltophilia is a seldom-reported pathogen in ocular infections. The report describes six cases of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia (S. maltophilia) keratitis and scleritis. To our knowledge, this is the foremost report of S. maltophilia scleritis. METHODS Laboratory reports of patients diagnosed with S. maltophilia ocular infections were collected from the ophthalmic d...
